FW – Guide: The Gauntlet of Storms Empty
PostSubject: FW – Guide: The Gauntlet of Storms   FW – Guide: The Gauntlet of Storms EmptyMon Nov 21, 2011 8:55 pm

okies well since no one is doing this just yet, and the fact of by time we do this will not be as easily accessible anymore... here is a copy of the guide.

get ready for a long read and terror

*original post* gauntlet
(sorry i don't know how to add the pics, which is why there's the original link)
ps. note that this is far more messy then the news post, so better to read that

The Gauntlet of Storms represents a new set of challenges introduced in the Storms of War content update! A complete, detailed guide is now available to help any aspiring group of Forsaken World adventurers conquer this dungeon and reap all of the rewards there are to be had!

Full credit for the creation of this guide goes to Ben Rico!

Welcome once again to the walkthrough for one of the new pieces of content for Forsaken World: The Gauntlet of Storms! In this guide I will tell you all you need to know about each boss of the Gauntlet and how to take them down as well as how to get yourself the Champion Set gear, which are extremely powerful new sets for each class. Are you ready to start running!?

The first thing you need to know is that this instance requires a PC to be LV75 or higher, and it is once again recommended to be in a full party, with at least one Bard who can battle revive and one Divine Priest. Trust me; you will need them to deal with the beasts within. To run the Gauntlet, simply be in a party and talk to Donald Blake near the Magic Fountain in Freedom Harbor.

Now before you go running in unawares and getting yourself killed, let me explain a little about this Gauntlet. As you can see in the above picture, the map only shows a bunch of independent rooms, as opposed to a traditional area map. This is because, as it is appropriately named, this instance is a Gauntlet of trials. Each room is its own area, accessible only when the previous room has been cleared. The first room is the entrance hall to the Gauntlet, and it is here that you will spawn if you die and choose to resurrect instead of having someone revive you, which of course means you will have to start that particular fight all over, so be careful in here!

Another thing that is important to note is that while this instance is open 24 hours, and you can enter it 100 times a week, you can only get the rewards ONCE a week. Also, if you are the party leader and have already completed the Gauntlet, Athenia will not open the teleporter for you when you reach the entrance room. So if you wish to run the gauntlet multiple times a week, you will need to have the party leader be someone who has NOT run it in order to get in. This applies to your teammates as well as you. If you go along on a Gauntlet run and finish it, if you become the party leader you will not be able to have the teleporter opened for you either.

You can check your progress through the Gauntlet at any of the crystals inside of each cleared room, or with Donald Blake in Freedom Harbor.

As you can see above, this is the progression chart. If any of the rooms look like this, it means that you haven’t run them yet. If they are green, then it means you have run it but haven’t received the reward for it yet. If they are blue, then it means that you have both run and received the reward for the trial.

When you are ready to brave the trials, speak to Athenia, and she will open the gate to the next trial you have not yet cleared. This is important because if you feel you want to stop or run and do other things, you can leave, and when you return she will open the gate and you won’t have lost any progress. Convenient! Just remember once you go through the gate there is no turning back. Once you’re in, the only way out is to kill the boss or die and return to the entrance. Got it? Now once you go through the teleporter, you will arrive at the first trial room.

When you first arrive, you will notice that it is a deserted room. Not to fear! The boss is slumbering (or hiding) and won’t appear until multiple PCs stand at the top of its cage, in the middle of the room. Be careful of the bubbling liquid, however! It will poison and damage anyone standing in it. The poison effect will go away once you step out of it, but better not to get hurt before the big fight. Once two or more party members stand on the cage, the lord of the first trial will appear!

Istar - Lord of Corpses

Notice that little icon that looks like a hand in your buffs section of the screen? Well that is a wonderful little trap set by the Lord of Corpses for you. As long as you stand on the top of the cage, you will be affected by it, so get off quick! That trap is a part of the theme of Istar’s attacks: Poison. He has several attacks which not only slow you down, they poison you as well.

Poison Lord's Trap - Max Health and Defense are reduced. (This is the one that will affect you while on top of the cage.)

Corrupting Poison - Movement speed is reduced. Attack is greatly reduced.

Spread Poison - Deals damage over time. Bleeding effect is lowered the farther you are from the origin of the curse. Unable to dispel

Infectious Poison - Movement speed, Attack, Healing Effects, and Masteries are all reduced. Infects party members within 6 meters of you every 5 seconds. Unable to dispel
Corpse Poison - Deals damage over time.

Wind Slash - Healing Effects are reduced. Unable to move or cast skills.

Now for the most part this is a pretty straightforward fight, but be mindful of the onscreen indicators that come up. Whatever they say to do, do it! At some point Istar will star to remove pieces of himself and spread poison all over the place, and anyone caught in the area of effect will take massive damage, and possibly die. I hope you brought that reviver, because it would be awful if you got him down to little health, only to get poisoned and die suddenly and have to start all over!

Overall Istar’s biggest threat is his poison clouds and surprise to those unaware of the dangers of his attacks. A well prepared party, however, should be able to make short work of him, assuming they mind the onscreen notifications and keep their Health up.

Once he’s put back in his sarcophagus, Lily will appear. She is your teleporter opener and rewards giver and will appear after clearing each room. Speak to her and pick up your rewards, then have her open the gate when you are ready. Once ready, head into the teleporter and get ready for trial number two.

Tatar - Explosion Worm Lord

Now when you first enter the room, you will see Tatar just milling about. He’s not aggressive and won’t attack you until you attack him. Use this time to prepare and work out any battle plans you night need. When you’re ready, strike him and he will come after you. Now the first thing you will need to know is that he does not fight alone. It will constantly summon explosion bugs to help him take you out, and you MUST take them out quickly if you are to have any hope of winning this fight. There will be three different types of bugs that will be summoned against you, all of which have the ability to inflict the status effect of:
Debilitated:

Attack, Defense, Max Health, and Healing Effects are all reduced.
Dispel with Toxic Bug Fluids.
(You can get Toxic Bug fluids by killing the Larvae that appear during the fight.)

Explosion Worm:
This is a slightly smaller, blue bug that is pretty straight forward and will attack anyone it sees. No big deal, right?

Explosion Larva:
This little critter can be a pain if you’re not ready, as he is summoned in a group. This guy doesn’t have a lot of life, but can explode, which can take up to half of your current health! He can also give Tatar and the Explosion Worms health when they die, so be extra careful.

Larva:
Now this is the one that must be feared. The smallest and greenest of the bugs, this little guy has very little health, and is the only one who will drop the precious Toxic Bug Fluids you will need to dispel the Debilitated status effect. Why are they a threat and why are you whimpering like a little girl you ask? Well, these guys can also explode, are also summoned in groups, but when they die, they take away ALL your life. That’s right, they blow up, and you die. It’s as simple as that. Who’s whimpering now?

Now that you know all that they have to offer, and if you listen to my advice, you should be able to squash these bugs and emerge victorious. Let’s just hope you don’t get sick from drinking too many Toxic Bug Fluids…err maybe it is best not to think about it too much…

Once you wipe the goop off of you and heal up, talk to Lily, get your rewards, and enter the teleporter and into room three.

Samir the Lamp Demon, and Misar the Hare Guardian

Now this battle is an interesting one, if I may say so. Like the last room, when you enter you will see them wandering around the room together, admiring the scenery. Now what makes this fight interesting is that you don’t get to fight both. You only get to fight one, in fact, and it won’t always be the same one each time you fight. You will know who your opponent is when you attack, as they will be the only one targetable. Once one is struck, the other will bail and disappear.

Once the battle begins there will be a glowing circle wandering the room. This is a magic field that will inflict a status effect on you depending on which boss you are battling.
Battling Samir will cause you to have:

Magic Penalty:
You lose Mana over time.

Battling Misar will cause you to have:
Attack Penalty:
Your Attack and Masteries are reduced.

They will also summon groups of critters named Bloodthirsty Drakes from time to time to harass you. While they aren’t a significant threat, they can bunch up on you so don’t take them too lightly. These Drakes can cause the following effect on you as well:

Entanglement:
Movement speed is reduced. Healing effects on you are reduced.

As I said, the battle is pretty straight forward, but partway through it the boss will start talking trash and some onscreen prompts will appear. Watch for the onscreen instructions and follow them as best you can, especially when they say not use certain skills, or to be near or away from them. You will take massive damage if you are foolish enough to use whichever skill they indicate, and are not at the distance it tells you to be. Another interesting part of this fight is that at some point they will test you and let you hit them for twenty seconds or so. Now why would they just stand there and let you wail on them? Well because once those twenty seconds are up they will attack you and the damage of the attack will be the amount you inflicted on them! Yeah, so if you choose to pound on the boss be prepared to be pounded back in turn. I recommend simply leaving them alone and regrouping during this time, unless you want to wind up as a stain on the ground. They can also affect you with a dripping poison which will not only damage you but will infect any nearby party members you happen to be standing near while you are poisoned.

Overall though, if you have a strong party and follow the onscreen instructions, you should make short work of these guys. Once you have disposed of the Guardians, talk to Lily, get rewarded, enter the teleporter, and prepare for your final challenge.

Remember how I said that the last battle was interesting? Well this is why: Who you fight in room three will determine who you fight in room four. That’s right; depending on whom you fight in trial three you will either battle Eldon or Laufey, not both. By battling Samir, you will be taken to Eldon. By taking on Misar, you will be taken to Laufey’s lair.

Eldon and Laufey

Now there are several similarities with both bosses, such as their status attacks, and they both have a devastating attack which I will list for each of them shortly. First, they both have several status effects they will inflict on you and your party over and over.

Blinding Rage:
Stunned. Unable to move or use skills.

Deep Hypnosis:
Hypnotized, unable to move, cast skills or eat.
Being attacked will not wake you.

Weakness:
Attack and Defense are greatly reduced.

Freeze:
Unable to move or cast skills.

Crystal Rampage:
Frozen, unable to move, cast skills, or eat.
Damage dealt over time.

Disarm:
Defense and Healing Effects are reduced.
Unable to dispel

Now those are a pain in and of themselves, but there is one more effect that is common to both of them, and by far it is the most devastating:

Bane of the Sloth:
Do not stand still! Those who stop will be punished.
Unable to dispel

At some point in the battle, one member of your party will be targeted and onscreen instructions will appear. You must, I repeat, MUST do what they say and keep moving around. Do NOT stand still while the effect is on you. If you stand still you will take massive damage and in all likelihood die. I can’t repeat that enough: do not stand still while you are targeted. Don’t even fight the boss, just keep moving. Once it wears off you will be fine, but until then just keep running!

Now, when facing these guys, I of course recommend a full party with a healer and reviver to keep you up in case you don’t listen to instructions or just get caught napping.

When you enter either room, you will see a mirage version of the boss just milling about, minding his own business. Do all your preparations and when you’re ready, have at him. Once the boss is attacked, it will use some of the status effects and be generally not too difficult. At some point you will be notified that the soul of the creature is escaping. This is your chance to inflict massive damage to it! The spirits will appear as blue ghostly looking things and will remain onscreen for a short time, during which you can deal massive damage to the mirage, and if you somehow manage to kill the spirit, you will dissolve the mirage and go straight to the true boss. Either way, this shouldn’t be too difficult of a fight, and once it goes down, the true version of the boss will appear, so be prepared.

Eldon:
Eldon will appear after its mirage is destroyed, and will begin pounding on you and your party. It uses all the effects listed above, has significantly more health, does much more damage, and also has its own unique attack. During the battle, Eldon will fill most of the room with a green fog which will poison and weaken you greatly, and inflict one of the status effects which won’t go away until the fog has disappeared. Overall Eldon can be a real pain, but if you can keep you health up, work together, and follow the onscreen instructions, he can be taken down.

Laufey:
For the most part, Laufey fights very similar to Eldon, except he deals more damage and generally has more Health. He also has an attack which is devastating to the unprepared adventurer. He will cover half of the floor in the room with glowing purple circles. Do not, I repeat again, do NOT stand on one of these. Get off of them and get somewhere safe as fast as you can. Once Laufey creates them, he will detonate them a short time later, and anyone standing on them will suffer massive damage and most likely die. So stay off of them! What makes him even more of a pain is he likes to target someone with Bane of the Sloth and then summon the purple circles, making it a real challenge to stay alive!

Like Eldon, if you have a balanced party, plenty of healing, revivers, and a little luck, you can take him down and claim what’s rightfully yours!

When you take down the boss, Lily will appear so of course talk to her, get your rewards, and exit the instance.

Well I hope that this guide has helped you to run the Gauntlet and claim the rewards you deserve, and that I was able to make your trials easier in some small way at least. Best of luck with the Gauntlet and see you next time!

Gauntlet of Storms Addendum: Side Quests

No new instance would be complete without a couple side quests to spice things up right? Well the Gauntlet does not disappoint! There are two quests you can undertake and get those much needed rewards from.

Horrible Memory:
The first quest is a pretty straight forward one. Natalie, located next Donald Blake, apparently saw her entire family murdered in front of her when the Gauntlet of Storms was first created and the monsters surged out and devastated the countryside. Now she wants you to take revenge for her and kill Istar and Tatar. All you need to do is enter the Gauntlet, kill Istar and Tatar, then exit, talk to Natalie, and let her know that her family can rest easy, having been avenged. For your troubles you will receive some Storm Gems.

[Combine] Mage Guard:
Now this quest is interesting in that you don’t take it when you want to enter the Gauntlet, but rather you take it when you have acquired the pet stones for Misar and Samir (The Hare Guardian and Lamp demon). Once both pet stones are acquired (by battling Samir and Misar over and over until they drop them), incubate them, then when they hatch and are ready to be used, go and speak to Wind Dancer in the Union of the Woods quarter of Freedom Harbor and select the Combine quest. Follow the instructions and you will lose your two hard-earned pets and in return you will get an even harder-earned pet: The Mage Guard. It’s a pretty strong and decent pet, but you do lose the Hare Guardian and Lamp Demon so the choice is ultimately yours.

Gauntlet of Storms Addendum II: Loot, loot, and more loot

So you’ve conquered the Gauntlet of Storms and now you want to know why you had to do all that work, right? Well here it is! Champion sets of armor! There are two sets for each class giving you a total of 16 new sets of armor to collect and show off! These incredibly powerful new sets can be yours by running the Gauntlet of Storms and obtaining the right items to exchange with Natalie. You will first need the damaged versions of each piece of gear you wish to buy, which can be purchased from Natalie, for various components. After you obtain the damaged version of the piece of gear, speak to Natalie and she will sell you the actual gear, as long as you have the requisite components for that as well.

Here is the list of items you can get as rewards from running the Gauntlet, with varying degrees of rarity depending on the item:

Void Blade Void Blade Recipe Void Blade Material
Void Glow Void Glow Recipe Void Glow Material
Void Dance Void Dance Recipe Void Dance Material
